Mach3 is the flagship of the ArtSoft USA products. It is released in two versions: a Lockdown version, and a Development version. The Lockdown is a stable, static release recommended for new users, or people trialing the software. The Development version contains developing features and is released quite often so people can obtain new (but untested) features and capabilities.
The software will run in Demo mode until "unlocked" by a license file - please make sure that you get your machine successfully running in Demo mode, and that you are happy with the performance, before you purchase a license. While in Demo mode, the software has the following limitations:
- (Mill/Plasma) 500 line gcode limit (samples) (10,000,000 limit after licensing)
- (Turn) 50 line gcode limit (samples) (10,000,000 limit after licensing)
- Kernel Frequency locked at 25kHz (only applicable if using the parallel port driver)
- Set Next Line function disabled
- Run From Here function disabled
- (Turn) Threading disabled
- (Plasma> THC functions disabled
*If you would like to control your machine via a parallel port using the Mach3 Parallel Port Driver, you must use a desktop PC running a 32-bit version of Windows. Laptops are not supported because the power saving features of the chipsets disrupt the pulse stream. Mach3 will only be supported on laptops running an external motion controller, such as one of those found on the Plugins page.*
Mach3 - Vista
Mach3 will run under 32-bit versions of Vista with the following registry patch:
Mach3 - Translations
The following translations of Mach3 are available from various distributors:
Newfangled Mill Wizard (Beta)
The Mill Wizard is a stand-alone program to create G-code for milling simple parts and for doing basic operations where CAM software can be overly complicated and complex. This software fills the gap between CAM software and writing G-code manually. An illustration of how the Mill Wizard works is available on its product page.
LazyCam (DEAD PROJECT)
Due to the availability of other, more mature, low cost CAM packages, LazyCam development has ceased and it will remain in permanent Beta status. LazyCam is not intended - and not supported - for use in a production environment.
LazyCam is a BETA-release free importer included with Mach3. It's purpose is to import standard dxf, cmx, and other file types to allow those that do not use CAM programs to more easily generate Gcode to be run under Mach3. The Basic (free) edition of LazyCam that is included with Mach3 carries no cost, but will only output 50 lines of gcode if Mach3 is running in Demo mode. There is an optional PRO level upgrade that turns on advanced features such as object offsetting, pocketing, etc. As the software is BETA, not all features are fully functional - please thoroughly test your files before purchasing a Pro license!
(Note: Requires the ".net 2.0 update" from Microsoft to prevent an error at startup.)
ArtSoft Recommended CAM Programs
While Mach3 does come with LazyCam for very simple tasks, it is recommended to use a full CAM program. The CAM programs in this section are highly recommended products, and include Mach3 post-processors. If you have a requirement for CAM programs, we highly suggest you try these products.
These programs are used by developers for writing plugins and adding options to Mach3, or to interface others programmers code to Mach3's interface.
Downloadable PDF manuals for Mach2/3 can be found on the Documentation page. There is no manual for LazyCam as it is still an evolving program. Video tutorials for both Mach and LazyCam are also available.
A collection of user-written screensets is available on the Screensets page.
